Uber and EBANX partner for payments with PIX in Brazil

November 16, 2020

The Brazilian fintech will be Uber's exclusive partner for payment processing of PIX, Brazil’s instant payment system controlled by the country's Central Bank, for Uber rides requests and Uber Eats orders

CURITIBA, BRAZIL, November 16, 2020 – Uber and EBANX announced today an exclusive partnership in Brazil for payments made with PIX, instant payment system launched by the country's Central Bank. Brazilians will be able to pay for their Uber rides and Uber Eats orders with PIX, and EBANX, through its company EBANX Pagamentos Ltda., that offers local payment processing in Brazil, will be the exclusive partner of the tech giant in processing these payments. This is one more step in the growing partnership between the two companies in Latin America.

The partnership between Uber and EBANX for payments with PIX adds to the existing integration of the two companies for Uber Cash in Brazil, which started in 2019.

For Claudia Woods, General Manager for Uber Brazil, "with the arrival of PIX and given the importance of the Brazilian market for Uber, we want to offer a new payment experience to our millions of users that is aligned with the objective to always provide and think of ways to make life easier through technology. PIX will play an important role as it will be a more modern payment option in our platform and EBANX will give us the necessary tools for processing these payments safely."

"We truly believe that PIX will be a milestone of financial inclusion in Brazil, bringing millions of Brazilians into the digital economy. We are happy to partner with Uber for this new payment method, offering more options for Brazilians to enjoy their services, and addressing Uber's needs of payments, localization and good user experience through our solutions," said Henrik Nilsmo, CCO of EBANX.

As of this Monday (November 16), users in Brazil will be able to use PIX to get Uber Cash. They will also be able to pay for orders with the new payment method directly at Uber Eats – this feature will be released gradually over the course of the day and over the next few weeks.

Uber’s mission is to create opportunity through movement. We started in 2010 to solve a simple problem: how do you get access to a ride at the touch of a button? More than 15 billion trips later, we’re building products to get people closer to where they want to be. By changing how people, food, and things move through cities, Uber is a platform that opens up the world to new possibilities.

EBANX is a leading global unicorn fintech company with Latin American DNA. It has operations in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Uruguay. The company was founded in 2012 to bridge the access gap between Latin Americans and international websites. Currently, EBANX offers over 100 Latin American local payment options to global merchants and has already helped over 70 million people to access global services and products, with over 1,000 merchants expanding to Latin America. AliExpress, Wish, Uber, Pipedrive, Airbnb, and Spotify (these two in a partnership with Worldline) are some of the companies that use EBANX solutions. In 2019, EBANX started to offer local payment processing solutions in Brazil through a new company, EBANX Pagamentos Ltda. In early 2020, the company entered the B2C world, with the launch of EBANX GO, a digital payments account with virtual and physical cards for Brazilian consumers.
